Once upon a time, I was having a chat to the amazing spiritual teacher Colette Baron-Reid. We were talking about the possibility of creating an oracle card deck together (in the end our schedules didn’t align but I did create my new Moonology Messages deck as a result of our chats…)
Colette said to me that when she creates a deck, she has to get to know its SPIRIT.
I LOVED this idea!
In some places, this idea is called ‘animism’ – here’s what Wikipedia says about that:
Animism is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. Animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork, and in some cases words—as animated and alive.
This is a super interesting idea to keep in mind whenever you are creating ANYTHING … eg
- when you’re renovating, what’s the SPIRIT of your house?
- when you’re writing a book, what’s the SPIRIT of the book?
- when you’re creating a party for friends, what’s the SPIRIT of the party?
Understanding that everything has a spirit will change the way you look at the world.
How do you know the spirit of a thing?
All I can tell you is that for me, it’s clear! It just comes to me. I tap in and I listen… and the answers reveal themselves.
Eg: I have created 3 oracle card decks now and I can tell you for SURE they all have a spirit.

In the case of the new deck, the Moonology Messages deck, I had no idea that INTUITION was where I was going with the deck as I wrote it.
But little by little, as I put together the 48 cards (all of which have a Moon symbol on them), I started to hear whispers.
I also felt the guidance of one of my favourite Goddesses, Saraswati.
The more I wrote, the more I realised that these cards are ALL about helping whoever uses them to tap into their own intuition.
It makes sense really – as each card has a beautiful illustration on it by Ali Vermilio, the cards actually act as a sort of intuitive prompt to you … what does the symbol say to you?
Of course, there is a guidebook as with all good cards, but your intuition – what you feel as you read the cards – is also really informative and important!
It’s my humble belief that as a race, we humans are learning how to tap into our intuition – we will start to change the world once we get to a tipping point of more and more people STOPPING thinking this stuff is woo-woo and realising that this ability is something humans have and have just forgotten how to use!
Imagine a world where the heads of government and CEOs function on intuition – or maybe some of them already do?
I feel like the most successful people in the world MUST listen to their intuitive hunches!
Would Putin have done differently if he’d listened to his inner wisdom before starting the Ukraine war?
Would Blockbusters have rebirthed itself if they’d tapped into their intuition when Netflix started?
