Some info about rising signs aka the ascendant
For anyone who is wondering what a rising sign is and why it’s so important…
Hopefully, you’ve already identified your rising sign which is also known as your ascendant. So what’s it all about? The easiest way to describe your ascendant, which is interchangeably called the rising sign, is as the way you come across to people: it’s what they register when they meet you for the first time.
The rising sign or ascendant is sometimes referred to as ‘the mask’ we wear, which sounds really sinister, but think about it – we do all have a sort of social mask we put on, especially when meeting people for the first time, be it at a party, a work event, or in an interview.
In other words, your Sun sign is your ‘real’ self, whereas your Rising Sign is the ‘face’ you put on or the ‘mask’ you wear. We all do it. So the zodiac sign your Rising Sign is in, is a big thing because you come across very much as that sign. So if you’re Scorpio Rising, you come across as Scorpionic – in other words, rather mysterious. And if you’re Libra Rising, you exude Libran energy so you’re rather charming.
The most personal point on your chart…
The rising sign is also the most personal point on your chart because it’s dictated by the exact time and place and date you were born. So someone born at the same moment in time as you were, but on the other side of the world (or even just a few miles away) will have a totally different Rising Sign to you. (Want to learn astrology? I have a book and an online course for that!)
And when it comes to reading forecasts, it’s super important because it effectively acts as the “front door to your chart”. So whichever sign you have rising rules your chart and is “on” your 1st House. That then dictates which planet you have on your 2nd House, which in turn dictates which sign is “on” your 3rd House and so on, all the way through the 12 signs.
The Houses tells you in which parts of your life action happens.
So when you read my horoscopes, if you read your rising sign, then it’s more like the info you would get in a one-to-one astrology session based on your time, date and place of birth. Note that in my experience, many people are not crazy about their rising sign when they first discover it! I guess that’s because many of us like to think we come across in ways totally different to the ways we really do!
